MY NIGHTMARE!!
On Thursday 2/16/12 I was coming from a friends house on Westchester Avenue in the Bronx.
I got pulled over and asked for my drivers license and registration when i gave it to the cop he told me if it is no suspended i’m going to let you go.
He came back to the car and told me he smells weed for me to get out of the car. I told him i do not smoke weed and have not smoked it in over 18 years. The cop told me to get out and stand in the back of the car with my hands on the car. He starts to look through my car and he finds nothing. Then he starts searching me and I told him i have a pocket knife i use for work in my front pocket. he pulls it out and tells me it is a Gravity Knife and tell me to put my hands behind my back that i am under arrest.
The knife was a small regular buck knife that i use to work and to open mail it wasn’t a Gravity knife.
A Gravity Knife is a switch blade or a assisted open Knife by mechanical means.
I was placed under arrest and brought to the 43rd precinct in the Bronx and was thrown in the jailfrom there they sent me to 161st Street called central booking.
The Correction Officers there are heartless people treating everyone like they are not human.
I got there Friday morning at 12am where i was put in things they call Bullpens in this little cell that is the size of someones large closet with 25 other people where you have to stand like animals for hours and hours until you are sent up to the next Bullpen to wait hours and hours and so on there are bedbugs lice and rats and mice where the water fountain doesn’t work and lets not talk about the toilet disgusting .
I asked one of the Correction Officers for some water and was told it is not her job to bring me water that if the water in the next bullpen works you can get it there. the Bullpens were extremely dirty the floor looked like it hadn’t been mopped in years with dried blood all over the floors and walls. The heat from 25 people being put in such a small place was terrible.
I have never been arrested in my life for anything and feel that no one should have to go through something like that.
The Police Officer that Arrested me and lied Violated my civil rights and the false Arrest I plan on bringing charges up against him ounce i am found not guilty in the Gravity Knife case that is scheduled for next month and for those Correction Officers that i got there names i will be making complaints.
Here is New York States definition of a Gravity Knife.
"Gravity knife" means any
means any knife which has a blade which can be projected from the handle by hand pressure applied to a button, lever, spring or other device in the handle of the knife.
I am so mad and feel violated and am emotionally broken from this experience that lasted from Thursday morning until Saturday afternoon with no sleep no food nothing to drink.

Well that’s a horrible story. Good luck with your case.
But I have to agree with Green, I keep hearing worse stories about America’s police.
Every policeman/woman I know are level-headed, respectable and fair.
America… sort yourself out.

probably because many of our police officers are frustrated with their jobs and lives and take there aggression out on the easiest targets, aka the innocent

Well, that shouldn’t be an excuse for doing their job badly.

I would never wish for anyone to go through what i just did it was horrible!!
When i was in there i was listening to other peoples stories where cops were kicking down there doors without a warrant and grabbing people out of there apartments when they knocked on there door saying they smell weed in thier apartment.
Jut last week two cops wer video taped by the peoples house security of the police shooting and killing a 14 year old child in the Bronx.

There are some things to look out for when you’re pulled over. Be sure to do the following:
1) Turn off car
2) Crack window (Do not fully open it, maybe halfway, enough that the officer doesn’t want to stick his head in the window (They’re trying to smell)) But don’t be unwilling to open it more if they ask.
3) Put hands palms flat on steering wheel, they want to be able to see your hands.
3) If the officer asks you to exit the car, proceed to exit the car (roll up the window if possible) then LOCK the car. If the officer asks why you locked the car, just explain it’s a matter of habit.
4) If the officer asks to search your car, you can say “Officer, I would not to give you permission to search my vehicle”. A dog can legally sniff around your car for anything, and if anything is in plain sight in your car, or the officer has “probable cause”, he may search your car without a warrant. However, even if they find something, you can argue he didn’t have probable cause in court, and have the evidence thrown out.
5) Do not incriminate yourself, either tell them that you wish to speak with your lawyer before answering, or refuse to answer the question. Do not say that you were doing something wrong, speeding, etc, doing so is waiving your 5th amendment right against self-incrimination.
Oh, and always continually ask if you’re free to go. And always address them as sir, or officer.
The officer is not on your side, no matter what you tell them, even if they say they will let you go, do not trust them, it’s not true (They are allowed to lie).
Doing these things will anger the officer, you’re making their jobs harder, they may or may not give up and let you go, they will try and intimidate you, don’t back down.
A really good example of this tactic:

To respond to Masskilla, you incriminated yourself when you said that, that was enough to get you arrested.
Not to be rude, mean, or any combination of the two, when you get pulled over, keep your mouth shut, always be polite, and never give them any more information than they need. Always ask if you’re free to go, and refuse to answer questions without a lawyer.
I recommend everyone watch this video (it’s long, but it’s wonderful).
