Intel’s PC on Chip
Intel recently released a video showcasing their upcoming PC on Chip. What they have done is place two Atom cores, some DDR3, a wi-fi transceiver, and a few other things onto one tiny chip.
I’m left with a list of questions after watching the video. X86 based processors are not exactly known for their efficiency. Arm is far superior when it comes to performance per watt. How will it be for the PC on Chip? Also, will the 2.4GHz wireless transceiver have an “off” switch? I know some people would want to be able to disable this. I imagine this can be done in software.
I am also wondering how fast this will be. What sort of applications will it be capable of running? I’ll give Intel a call to see if I can get some more info and then report back.

Looks impressive, but where is the storage? Maybe it’ll be solid state or something.

it doesn’t have actual DDR3 ram, just a memory controller, though CPUs do have level cache memory, so if they can increase the capacity and decrease the size enough it wouldn’t be that farfetched

can i smell nano technology?
looks very interesting tbh. can’t wait to see what’s next!

The world of technology seems to be changing into diverting all its focus to mobile devices. I wonder what will happen to the desktops?

Some people think they will be gone in a few years… I doubt it.
But I’m sure they will almost fizzle out one day, maybe the PC gamers will still need desktops for their power.

yeah, its not realy a system on a chip, its just a cpu + wifi card baked into one chip.

Yea I guess they will probably be phased out i just hope the pc customization doesn’t go with it.

LOL see Intel trying to compete with ARM Cortex…
