Outdated Geforce drivers causes the GTX 590 to short
Ano
ther reason why sometimes good things can come to you in a negative way. Swedish site SweClockers reports that outdated drivers could cause a GTX 590 to overheat and blow up when overclocking+overvolting is applied. http://www.sweclockers.com/artikel/13710-geforce-gtx-590-brinner-i-sweclockers-testlabb-drivrutin-boven-i-dramat (Can’t read? You know what to do…)
I’ve seen this before and they’re not the only ones to discover this issue. Bit-Tech recieved a statement from Nvidia:
‘in the web release driver of GeForce GTX 590, we have added some important enhancements to our overcurrent protection for overclocking. We recommend anyone doing overclocking or running stress apps to always use the latest web driver to get the fullest protection for your hardware.’
Techpowerup obtained their hands on the Asus GTX 590 and you can find out their verdict here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_590/1.html
NOTE: Go to the end of the page and look for an easter egg on that page and you’ll get their thought.
For my thought, anything a company releases on a 1st day that would’ve set to impress people may not turn out well. This is the example. I hope this message brings out to those people who aren’t paying attention on the issue but instead trying to give themselves an orgasm on the “performance” this card brings. More driver updates in the future would only remdy this situation.

It’s good that SWEclockers contacted Nvidia about this as soon as they found out, and they together could test if it happened on other 590′s aswell, which it did (on the supplied driver), so I’d say well done Nvidia, for having new drivers out online before the actual release of the card! (because reviewers gets the cards before release, and they can publish their reviews on day of release).
