Are lga 1366 computers still worth investing in?
I want to build my next computer but all the lga 1155 shit has been pulled from tigerdirect and newegg (at the time I post this), is it still worth investing in a 1366 system and how long do I have before I should start searching for a newer socket or cpu type? If I could I would go with socket amd mobo’s but your stuck with crossfire. Are there any amd mobo’s that support both sli and crossfire? Are there any bios or software hacks for amd mobo’s that can give them partial sli support? If anyone can recommend any decent amd/intel mobos that support 3way crossfire/sli that range from $100 to $300 that would be great.
I honestly didn’t know my question would start a flame war.
I swear you can’t say anything on the internet and not have it start some sort of flame war. But I’m still watching for those helpful post’s. When I ask the question I meant it in a more price/performance ratio over the long run, is it worth waiting the few months for the new cpu line. I know there’s rumors that socket 2011 supports quad channel but how long will it be before anything utilizes any of it’s potential?

You see, Sandy Bridge was made to replace the P55 chipset. Most of the time they don’t outperform the vast majority of X58 systems, although these baddies can overclock like up to 5GHz mad and easy on the K versions of 1155 CPUS. The upcomming 2011 socket are the replacement for 1366.
06 Feb 2011, 6:07 am
Yes, they are but I would suggest waiting for LGA 2011. Even if you don’t end up buying it, since it’s replacing the 1366 the price on the 1366′s will go down. Win-Win. IMO, if you have a computer that runs. Wait.
06 Feb 2011, 11:19 am
Right now I’m using a dell optiplex gx280 full tower that I restored about 5 year’s ago.
It has a 3.0ghz P4, 1gb of ram, evga geforce 8400gs, and a 500gb hdd. I hacked it’s bios just for overclocking but never done any actual overclocking on it.
06 Feb 2011, 7:16 am
If you have a job etc, buy 1366, at the end of the year, sell it and buy lga 2011.
PER MHZ, I believe the REAL i7 (1366) outperforms those silly 1155′s, but ofcourse the reviews never show that.
06 Feb 2011, 11:51 am
-.- there will be no lga 2011, ivy bridge is using 1155.
EDIT:
to answer your question. its worth it in my opinion. I’m currently piecing together an i7 950 rig. Its the best available at this point in time, and even if i did want to wait for p67 to be restocked, or ivy bridge at the end of the year, i like my tri channel memory.
06 Feb 2011, 4:29 pm
No LGA 2011? Where did you hear that?
If the LGA 2011 sockets do come out, I would suggest waiting for them. Last time I checked they were supposed to come out at the end of this year.
06 Feb 2011, 4:42 pm
What about the price/performance ratio’s? Sure I’m going to get SATA 6gbs and USB 3.0 standard, but what about the performance increase over the older socket 1366?
06 Feb 2011, 5:05 pm
Don’t worry it’s just blood’s wild guesses said in a way so they sound like facts.
06 Feb 2011, 5:10 pm
AMD Bulldozer.
Even the Engineering Samlpes of Bobcat (Zacate) platforms has beaten the s*** out of Intel.
Bulldozer is just 4x faster than Bobcat.
Don’t fall in the Sandy Ballz / Ivy Shit trap. They are just rippin’ you. As for LGA1366, I’m quite happy with my 4GHz i7, but it’s a dead end since 980X is the last CPU on 1366.
06 Feb 2011, 5:14 pm
No you norweigan prick, i posted a fucking thread about it. intel isn’t launching ivy bridge with 2011, instead theyre using 1155
06 Feb 2011, 5:15 pm

No one has an estimate on ivy bridge performance, and sandy bridge is minimal, if not nonexistant over 1366 chips.
sata 6 and usb 3 are all standard on x58 boards as well.

06 Feb 2011, 5:24 pm
woah woah chill the fuck out.
I see nowhere in that sourcelink that LGA2011 wont exist, just that ivy will be on 1155. So my point still stands.
06 Feb 2011, 5:26 pm
Im super fly tnt
Why would intel release a new socket, while having their chips on 1155, just for the hell of it?
If anything makes sense, its a new chipset. Allowing tri channel. but the socket itself will not be.
06 Feb 2011, 5:28 pm
Stop making your theories sound like facts. please.
It’s like saying “Why would they have i7 on 1156 when its already on 1366″ IT’S THE SAME.
The way I think it will turn out:
1155 Gets ivy bridge, new architecture and whatnot, 2011 gets a BETTER ivy bridge (like i7′s for 1366 opposed to i7′s on 1156)
06 Feb 2011, 5:29 pm
06 Feb 2011, 5:30 pm
Ill stop if you stop.
the way you state it is, wait til next year, after ivy bridge launches, when they finally launch a second gen ivy bridge.
06 Feb 2011, 5:32 pm
Time will show then.
One of us will ROFL at the other one in the end. :]

(Noone is helping)
Look bro. If you intend on buying a PC right this damn second as in cash in hand and ready to go. 1366 is just fine. If not wait till Sandy Balls boards come back out in a couple of months from the recall and nab an unlocked i7.
You’ll be dandy.
06 Feb 2011, 6:41 pm
Fact, unfortunately.
But yeah, if you can wait even a bit longer till Intel rereleases their Sandy Bridge I’d go for it.
06 Feb 2011, 7:23 pm
You can get sli to run on any board with 2 pci e slots, not officially(google sli on amd), but it’s the same thing used for the x58 boards except the x58 boards have it implemented officially. There are also AMD boards that have the lucid hydra chip so they can run sli as well, the ASUS crosshair 4 extreme and the MSI 870 have the hydra chips. You should wait for bulldozer though, and make it a challenge, too see how fast you can get your current hardware to run.
06 Feb 2011, 7:30 pm
How buggy is running a amd mobo and cpu sli hacked on the mobo?
06 Feb 2011, 7:24 pm
What about amd’s cpus and mobos?
06 Feb 2011, 7:34 pm
I’ve also heard rumors of DRM on sandy bridge cpus.

Yes guys, I know there are AM3 sli boards, but I would prefer a lucid hydra chip personally and the crosshair extreme looks awesome. I was answering his question specifically, the mods trick your drivers into thinking you have an x58 board. Here’s the link http://xdevs.com/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.30
link to crosshair http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131667&Tpk=crosshair%20extreme
There will be lucid boards for bulldozer, but I’m hoping there will be a better official sli chipset for AM3+.
06 Feb 2011, 11:01 pm
you n00bs ivy bridge is the replacement for the p67 sandbridge which has the 1155 socket and there’s the enthusiast platform coming which has the 2011 socket and is known as Sandybridge-E…
now im not sure if the recent sandybridge recalls have impacted on the released day of sandybridge-E but even you you are going for an AMD machine its still a dying platform cause teh bulldozers are upon us…
my opinion ?? WAIT!
06 Feb 2011, 11:35 pm
2011 Ivy bridge isn’t going to exist. At least not for a long ass time. Intel is making Ivy bridge 1155 with a simple bios flash. They might change the chipset and allow triple channel memory for shits and giggles. Idea being 2011 is a memory until Intel can come back from this fuck up.
See here vv

06 Feb 2011, 11:45 pm
seriously dont you guys get it??
sandy bridge was the replacement for the p55 boards and ivy bridge is going to be the replacement for sandybridge (p67)
where as the 2011 socket or sandybridge-E is the replacement for the current X58 boards which will be having quad channel mem supoport
comprende?
06 Feb 2011, 11:46 pm
Did you absolutely ignore everything I just wrote?
06 Feb 2011, 11:51 pm
no i didnt and like i had stated in one of my previous post’s the sandybridge recall might effect the release date of the sandybridge-E platform …
intel havnt said that they are NOT going with the 2011 socket plus p67 has a 16bit lane to the CPU so there is not proper SLI or CF for that matter(x16 and x16)
EDIT- socket 2011 was never going to be ivybridge it was going to be the replacement for p67 but now has been confirmed that ivy bridge will support p67 as well
06 Feb 2011, 11:52 pm
(Ivybridge is going to BE on 1155)
I don’t see your point here.

Highfive Razerboi, totally agree with you.
And please refrain from such silly child- trolling Blood.
They fail to see the connection between having same names on two different sockets, but still not being the same arcitechture (1366 i7 vs 1156 i7 anyone?).
And I had totally forgotten that LGA2011 was rumored to get quad memory, so another reason for it to be reality.
07 Feb 2011, 2:57 am
AMD lovers are LOL’ing hard while Nvidia lovers are crying their pain out with… rage. Smashing peperonis through the wall until they find out they won’t be upgrading CPU until 2068 where they can afford an Intel CPU.
07 Feb 2011, 4:08 am
Wait where has this thread gone to? I can’t sum this up.
07 Feb 2011, 8:27 am
psst blood. guess who’s building a sandyballs?
07 Feb 2011, 9:11 am
07 Feb 2011, 9:15 am
Ah well, this guy probably left a long time ago seeing as a magical argument broke out on page one.
If he didn’t, I’d advise him to just look at the posts that are clearly helpful.
It’s your PC, and going by what you have now, you’ll see a huge improvement in anything you buy, Future proofing is a lie as well as a idiotic way to go about building a computer.
Sandybridge will be replaced
The next thing will get replaced and so on and so on and so on.
So my message to you OP, is either wait for (can’t believe I’m saying this) Bulldozer, OR, wait till sandybridge boards are re-released.
That is my outlook and I hope it provides you with some idea.
