A new rig coming up?
Well well well, if it isn’t a first blog in a new community (for my part that is). I doubt there is a single one of you out there who have ever heard of me. Quite frankly, that would scare the shit out of me, considering my internet reputation regarding my builds is near zero (I’ve previously uploaded one single picture compilation on youtube along with some metal background, but that’s all), meaning that anyone who knows about my work is either a close friend of mine (none of which I can think spends time on this site) or is a stalker waiting outside my window. If the latter was true, then good luck to you sir, freezing your ass off in the Swedish winter. I would go out and kick your ass, if it was not probable that it would freeze of all by itself.
Never mind, the purpose of this blog is to convey the plans of the upcoming build, or rather the lack thereof. I have a few concept designs in mind, but I have not settled on one yet. Mainly because I will commence the construction i July, and there is a lot going on until then. By that I mainly mean new Sandy Bridge processors and motherboards (especially motherboards, since I cannot think of a more exciting processor for P67 than 2500K or 2600K coming out before July) and the upcoming Bulldozer. While there seems to be a dispute about when Bulldozer will hit the stores, I certainly hope that 990FX motherboards starring the AM3+ socket will be available by then at a reasonable price tag, in which case I will either have a good look at the new Bulldozer CPUs, or smack a Thuban on the 990FX and wait until a reasonable one comes up.
What I would very much look forward to would be a Maximus IV Gene, so that I can cram all of the Sandy Bridge overclock goodness into a small package, like the Lian Li PC-A04B or the Antec Mini P180. Sure, there are some mainstream mATX-boards starring the P67 (and H67, but that’s lame), but those boards just seem so… Dull. I want overkill with this rig. I want status LEDs, dual BIOS, two full X16 PCI-e slots (even if it means torturing the poor motherboard with an NF200), all that stuff that made the previous Gene-series motherboards stick out from the rest of their kind, by being in the class of standard ATX boards but in a smaller package. THAT is what I want, along with a 6970 (or two, hey I just might go crazy), some insane RAM (2000MHz CL8 at the least, I really have the hots for Corsair Dominator GT modules) and a very much overclocked 2500K or 2700K.
Or, I can have a great full ATX build. While a Sandy Bridge based on the Asus Maximus IV Extreme is a bit out of my budget, I am considering a Thuban build with the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T with similar specs as the mATX build I mentioned. What it all comes down to is a) what platform is the most efficient at the time of the purchase and b) what form factor am I interested in?
For the full ATX concept, I strongly consider a build in the Corsair 600T White Edition, and it will have the color theme of white, black and red. If Asus releases a Maximus IV Formula (the Extreme will fit neither the case nor my wallet), the rig will be Sandy Bridge based, with Dominator GT RAM and either real liquid cooling or an H60/70 for the CPU plus an Accelero for the GPU. If it does not, however, I will go for either Crosshair IV Formula with Phenom II X6, or a possible Crosshair V Formula featuring AM3+ socket, running either Thuban or Bulldozer.

So what do you here at Razetheworld think? Thuban? Bulldozer? Sandy Bridge? Micro ATX or full ATX? A rock or a hard place?
Either way, have a hardcore evening (for me at least, not sure how things are in your time zone).

When is this whole thing happening?
If within late 2011, wait for LGA 2011 socket. : ] Defineatly ATX for better dual-GPU possibilities.
Unisleeves in matching colors is a must. The Corsair 650D looks better tho

In July, along with the a new apartment and the beginning of my university studies, so I’m afraid I’m not patient enough for the Z68-platform
I have looked at the 650D, but found the 600T to be more appropriate for its upcoming surroundings (I’m afraid I’m an aesthetics freak, and the 600T would simply look better on my black and white desk).
And yes, of course everything will be sleeved, with MDPC-X sleeving
I agree with you on the ATX part. Mostly because it will be more fun to build and because I have more or less conditioned small form factor builds with frustration and sore limbs.

I much prefer the 600T white personally

its still feb and you have 4 months more so you might see buldozer around that time (hopefully) and then decide if its going to be sandybridge or buldozer ….
PS – does any one know what the ETA of the Buldozer’s are?
27 Feb 2011, 10:27 pm
I don’t think they’ve officially announced a release date yet.

Since we are in platform limbo like Logan and Qain said in an earlier video, I’m holding off until Bulldozer and possibly even PCI-E 3.0 and then make my move.
My other concern is the coming of the next consoles. I remember the 360 being quite a formidable opponent to build a PC against in it’s early years. Even the best video card of 2006, a year after the 360′s release, could not reproduce the same graphics quality as the 360 is putting out today, sadly.

for consoles they play in an upscaled resolution
This link has a bunch of the real resolutions (2nd and 3rd post)

1) Welcome sir!
2) Do not make a decision yet. Bulldozer and NV Kepler is coming out 2011 Q3. If AM3+ has SLI support, then your life has been saved.
Some leaked specs of 28nm NV Kepler:

~ 1.5x performance increase over Fermi. But if you want AMD Radeon, I won’t stand in your way.
AMD Bulldozer are 4-12 cores @ 1.6 – 2.8 GHz (I think). Monsters!
3) Looks like you got a nice list of VERY expensive, and useless hardware (for the price). Corsair Dominators are only for the champs. So are the Asus RoG and EVGA Classified, unless you are really desperate for them 70mhz over your neighbor.
My EVGA X58 SLI LE did 4GHz @ 1.275V with vanilla Corsair Domies… I don’t see why people are spending +$200 for a better design. Unless they really got some credit to burn on anything else than helping the rest of the world in need. Heck.
MY POINT IS; instead of all that “ZOMG EXXXSPENSIVEZ MOTTABOARD & RAMZ” throw some money in a REAL case. Not that Corsair piece of **** (no offense GreenSli!) Get the real stuff with 2mm brushed aluminum, airflow zones, DUSTFILTERS and all that stuff. SilverStone and Lian Li are the best when it comes to quality. Take a look and see if there’s a case that you might fall in love with.
Get decent cooling.
Better GPU’s.
The best PSU.
Enough HDDs.
You name it.
Don’t waste your moneys.
I haz spoken.

Well of course I won’t make up my mind on the CPU and GPU yet, that would just be plain stupid and futile
I’m simply strange that way.
When it comes to the overkill components, that’s simply the way I wish to build it, I’m strange that way. I build just as much for the aesthetics and the effort put into the build as I do for the usage. Because the building is my main hobby, more so than gaming. I build the rig with quality (after inspecting the 600T and other Corsair cases, I find no lack of quality whatsoever, just as with all Corsair products) and good looking components. I will never compromise on performance for looks, and I will never compromise looks for performance – I aim to get both, even if it hurts in my wallet. Computers are works of art just as any other. If I wanted to build a rig with only what I need and what is cost efficient and that I know that I will use 100% – I would. But now, I want to build a fast good-looking computer. Hence the sleeving, the color-schemed case and components, and so forth. The cooling is good enough for that purpose without sacrificing looks (an H70 will be enough for any consumer CPU and the graphics card will be cooled by an Accelero, later to be upgraded with a water loop). And as long as those criteria are fulfilled, I will be pleased with the result and pleased with having it on my desk – and hence I will not find it a waste of money.
I don’t say you’re wrong, not in any way, but this is simply the way I work and the way I go forth with my hobby
But all your tips are of course taken into consideration, thank you for your comment!

As the others ahve said, wait until Bulldozer has been released!
Its the very reason I have not gone for sandybridge yet, anyways, the new motherboards have not arrived yet lol

Probably FUDZILLA. They <3 Nvidia.
@ Carl – Beautiful. You touched my heart. Build the way you want it is the only way to get your dream PC!
As long as you pay for your games. One thing I hate is people with $3000 PCs pirating games. Just sayin’

Exactly, would seem a bit counterproductive to build a PC for PC gaming while simultaneously strangling the industry to death. I’m guilty of charge on no-CD-cracking many of my games though, but only for not having to use an optical drive for more than installation, leaving the discs clean and safe in the bookshelf
