ASUS P8Z68-V Intel Pro Motherboard Video Overview

I am finally starting to get my hands on some motherboards. Thank god. I was a bit asleep in this video due to my 5AM commercial shoot for the CompUSA (powered by TigerDirect) stores. Anyway, We should be doing more and more videos like this.

As for the Asus p8z68… I am loving the Smart Response from Intel. I am also a huge Asus fan… so this is one of the best motherboards on the market now in my opinion.

I didn’t know you still done TigerDirect, it’s nice that you went back to them though, you were one of my favorite to watch.

only thing i dont like about that MB (and most) is that it has the pci x1 slots… why put that on there??? just load them up with x16 or x8… they are backwards compatible with devices using a 1x slot!!!

I have the p67 version of this board and I must say I love the look of it, I will be installing it later this week or next week depending on when my ram gets in.

this board is a bit ok i guess for me i got the ability to have the option to use the extra sata ports without issues, i had a more stable o/c with my p67 vanilla b2 board :/ also the virtu is pants, when i load up l4d, the framerate is horrid. running straight from the gpu, butter smooth.. i also lost the ps/2 connector, which isn’t a biggie :/ i saw some improvement to my pings in connecting to a french server from 30+ ms to 20+ ms, yeah not a biggie
also the ssd caching is ok but in reality you would want a new intel slc ssd compared to the mlc types widely available. intel is pushing their 20gb slc ‘larson creek’ ones for the same price as a 64gb mlc types. the more you write to the mlc drives, the lifetime of that drive decreases, so it’s better to just install windows on it as a boot drive and some heavily used apps and do some tweaks once you’re in windows to minimise the background writing to the ssd.

unless you are a video encoder, which i’m not :/, the virtu feature maybe something to look into, but tbh if you’re a gamer, i would restart your pc and plug it back into the gpu and run your game as the hit on fps isn’t worth it.
also wrt to the pci-e connection widths, i agree entirely that they should all be 16x width, but wired to be whatever.. but from my understanding the pcb electrical connections probably need that real estate, hence the shortening of the connector widths :?
so coming from the p8p67 vanilla b2 stepping board to the p8z68-v pro b3 stepping board, was it worth the 3 months wait for the trade in and paying a small premium, no not really. but thats the beauty of hindsight :P
