Nvidia Surround?

  1. So, I'm starting to think that instead of getting some high end water cooling going, that maybe I should go out and buy some new monitors instead. Do you think my rig would be able to hand BF3 with 3 monitors in surround and still be above 60fps?

    Specs:
    i7 2600K @4.8 Ghz
    8GB of ram @ 1600mhz 7-8-7-24
2x MSI 3GB GTX 580 Xtreme Editions in SLI

  2. this looks pretty smooth to me, except all the bugs/glitches

    Get the Flash Video

I believe your stuff is faster, considering you have nearly a GHz and a half over him and probably faster ram, once you go over a certain amount of ram (8GB tops out) anymore won't really help you, especially in games, your GPU is probably clocked higher or has more ram so I believe its safe to say you can run it smooth

  3. Yes...you'll be fine. I can run BF3 in eyefinity maxed on 2x 6970s. You're 580s should murder it. Have fun with surround gaming in general. I broke down my surround setup out of sheer frustration with having to constantly edit .ini files to get stupid things like hud to not be stretched across all 3 screens. The technology is poorly implemented, save for a few games.

Is surround even really worth it then?

That's a personal decision. When it works it's awesome. But 90% of the time it's a pain in the ass getting it to work properly, which almost always requires .ini file edits. Half the time the HUD will still look like ass after .ini edits. If it was plug and play, I would still have eyefinity.

  6. Anyone know of some nice 24" monitors with glossy screens, an LED backlight, and a 2ms response time?

  7. So these are the best monitors I've been able to find with a glossy screen. Apparently no one makes glossy screens anymore. What do you guys think? Do you know of any better?

  8. Why do you like glossy screens?
Your options seem to be narrowed right down if you're looking for glossy.

They have better color reproduction. The colors on glossy screens are just a lot more vibrant, and I'm not worried about glare.

  10. Get some Dell UltraSharp IPS monitors. For the price of 3 of those HPs you can prob get 3 23" ultrasharps. Trust me the viewing angle on the ultra sharps will really really help out for your 2 side screens.

i second this. IPS displays have a much wider viewing angle and dell have a good rep in the monitors business (shame about their computers, except for the USFF optiplexes which were eye candy at the time)

  12. The response time on the Ultrasharps is kind of high though. 8ms just seems like it wouldn't be great for gaming.
