what the hell? I don't think this is SOPA related, and what I really don't understand is, why does the US government think they have the authority to take down sites based in other countries? Megaupload is based in Hong Kong, so surely the US should keep their noses out of places where their laws don't apply...? Makes me mad.

  2. i like this last part

"It begs the question that if you can find and arrest people who are suspected to be involved in piracy using existing laws, then why introduce further regulations which are US-only and potentially damaging."

Numerous government owned sites are hacked and offline. MPAA, RIAA, U.S. Copyright Office, and more.

  7. I think the US government actually still technically has rights to the internet if I remember correctly. If that's true then they can decide to shut down any site they want to.

It's the politicians, since they don't know shit on internet they'll go ahead and introduce a law without doing a research first. Here in NZ, copyright holders now have a right to file for an infringement via, the user's ISP. But they have to pay $25NZ in order to send a warning to the user. ThaT'S one flaw I can see. There's more though, IIRC.

I wanted our new copyright bullshit to be scrapped because if the holder can't afford or be fucked to pay $25 for a notice to be sent out, they would accept the defeat. But I know they would ditch out that much. Though the ISP, IMO, should raise that price up to like, for example, $460, the amount that most of the residents here pay for their annual rates.

    tl;dr...
