Jimmy PC Build
After Playing Skyrim on the PC at a friends and Owning it for the PS3 I am highly disappointed that my computer can’t do what his can since the PS3 has horrible Lag issues. So I’ve decided build a new PC, I’d like to play Skyrim at at least High Graphics and be able to edit videos well. Was wondering if you guys could help me out, I’ve never build a PC before personally but I did work at Tiger for 2 years and know what goes where, but other then that I’m still behind the curve.
This is what I put together. Feel Free to call me stupid if something doesn’t work with something else.

Looks good to me. I’d personally go with a different case, but that’s more of a personal preference thing. I’ve never heard of that case though, so I don’t know how feature rich/cable management friendly it is.
Oh, and are you getting an aftermarket cooler for your cpu?
22 Nov 2011, 1:00 pm
I was just looking around for cheap cases that weren’t crap and found it, I’m open to suggestions on it and the cooling as well, because I wasn’t planning on doing that. Trying to keep it as cheap as possible for now without losing performance.
22 Nov 2011, 2:59 pm
Well that case does look like it would be fine on airflow as long as you installed some extra fans. This would also be a really nice case for about the same price though:
HAF 912

You could just go stock cooling if you don’t want to spend the extra money, but definitely don’t plan on overclocking.

Fractal Define R3
22 Nov 2011, 6:13 pm
I was actually looking at the HAF 912, but I’m not sure if I like the heavy duty look it has. I like the sleek or futuristic looks. But nonetheless it looks like a good case for the money.
GreenSLi, that’s a little more than I’m looking to spend on a case when there are so many for 70 or less. I’m still jobless at the moment lmao. And Cases with doors have always bothered me for some reason.
22 Nov 2011, 6:37 pm
Looks like an awesome mid-ranger to me. Exept I would never put a cheap PSU in my rig.
22 Nov 2011, 6:43 pm
I was looking at this PSU as well. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Enthusiast-Certified-Compatible-platforms/dp/B004LB5AZY But I didn’t read any problems with the other one. Should I just get this one to avoid any problems?
22 Nov 2011, 6:58 pm
Yeah, I would go for that Corsair. Antec makes some nice PSUs, but I’ve always been wary of their “Earth watts” line for some reason. Plus, Corsair tends to have the best warranties when it comes to PSU’s.
And for more cases to look into, there’s always the Antec 300 and Cooler Master Storm Scout.
22 Nov 2011, 8:20 pm
I have the HAF 912 and I love it.
23 Nov 2011, 4:38 pm
Just curious why are you looking at amazon? Usually newegg has some of the best prices online. I love amazon but newegg just rules when it comes to buying pc hardware imho…
Everything looks pretty sweet. I love antec PSUs they’re freaking awesome but corsairs are just as good so whatever floats your boat.
23 Nov 2011, 5:51 pm
I checked newegg and amazon. Amazon had some better prices for a few things. Gotta go with whoever can get it to me for the best price! Waiting to start buying things for cyber money anyway since there may be some things way cheaper and better. Crossing my fingers for that.
24 Nov 2011, 1:28 am
believe it or not I actually found a laptop on BestBuy of all places about $100 cheaper than on newegg, also in one of my builds for someone their bank card kept getting put on hold for a GPU on newegg so he just went to best buy and got one there. They did some sort of price check and got the card at newegg prices, and get this, the noobs there didn’t notice that the card he picked out was a 2GB version and he got it fot the 1GB newegg price
24 Nov 2011, 10:50 am
Best buy deserves it.
“Here let me optimize that new PC for you for 40 dollars” *opens box, turns on PC, puts PC back in box” “There you go, Fully optimized and ready to go.”
24 Nov 2011, 5:58 pm
one time my bro-in-law had a bad stick of ram in his laptop so they just switched the slots they were in, I’ve heard all kinds of horror stories like instead of fixing a laptop web cam they put a screw where the lens was, to save time on shipping I’m going to do that price check thing and locally pick it up more often
25 Nov 2011, 9:37 pm
I love newegg but just started using amazon cause they approved a $500 credit card. I buy form who ever has the better deal at the time. Dude thats going to be a nice build. that antec psu is good so that wont be a problem.
27 Nov 2011, 2:36 pm
Should I attempt to get this case with the rebate? the form is cropped and It doesnt let you see all the info they will need. But its a 115 dollar case for 80 and 60 with the rebate.
27 Nov 2011, 2:38 pm
Actually newegg has the form uncropped. Same price as the Haf 912.
27 Nov 2011, 3:37 pm
which case?
27 Nov 2011, 3:46 pm
I thought I posted the link, guess not haha. But i bought the HAF 922 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197
27 Nov 2011, 5:09 pm
Awww. Should have got an NZXT Lexa S
27 Nov 2011, 5:39 pm

27 Nov 2011, 6:48 pm
Isn’t NZXT the drug from Limitless?
27 Nov 2011, 10:50 pm

14 Dec 2011, 1:23 am
umm? why are you spending nearly $100 on a 650w PSU, thats kinda high for that?
14 Dec 2011, 1:32 am
its 84 this week because of a coupon code and with a 15 dollar rebate making it 69.99
14 Dec 2011, 2:57 am
Nice!
14 Dec 2011, 12:26 pm
Just sayin… the TX V2 series from corsair are total crap… noisy as hell, unreliable and the cables are bloody annoying.
In fact, in the last month I’ve owned a TX650, a TX850 V2, and a HX850.
The TX850 V2 was faulty, the HX850 has a buzzing noise and a crap fan, and all three have cables that were too short to reach my CPU 8 pin plug.
I’ve given up with corsair, time for some SeaSonic.
14 Dec 2011, 1:13 pm
I’ve used rosewell for all my builds for customers, haven’t had a problem yet out of like 10
14 Dec 2011, 3:43 pm
They are okay, I have worked with them, but when doing my own personal builds I always go for a power supply with better efficiency and features, as I will transfer it from build to build.
I think of my PSU as long term investments as they don’t change very much so I keep them for awhile.
15 Dec 2011, 2:38 am
I only use 80 plus certified PSUs and the rosewell PSUs that I’ve used have fit that discription, would you rather have a 650w with 90% efficiency or would you rather have a 850w with 83% for the same price, they also have a dented (like a golf ball) fans to be move air more quietly and effectively, only PSUs I know that have that are rosewell their single rails are actually pretty decent, their most notable features are the ones they don’t advertise, or at least not on newegg, not trying to say they are like master race of PSUs but they get a bad name since they aren’t “name brand” if one of their PSUs is bad its a bad company but if one of Cosair’s goes bad its just a defective fluke, I geuss that kind of stuff gets to me since I mostly do scalable best bang for your buck kind of builds. oh so this isn’t just a rant and acttually pretains to the thread (somewhat) don’t underestimate “cheaper” hardware, research ALL brands and products, not just expensive, name brand “quality” ones, you’ll either save money or get better hardware for the same ammount, sounds good to me
also as for a long term investment, in the hardware that I’ve owned, most of which is like a decade or older, the only things that have died are hard drives, the only reason I’ve had to upgrade a PSU was lack or cable length or not enough Juice, and only one of each so far
17 Dec 2011, 8:13 pm
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182071 for 89.99 what do you think?
17 Dec 2011, 8:29 pm
Meh, I’d never buy a rosewill.
17 Dec 2011, 8:34 pm
Any reason why? just read a review on the series. Capstone is brand new. And they gave it a 9.1 out of ten.

I just personally like to go with brand names that already have a good reputation. Ever since my biostar motherboard died on me in my first build, I only buy brand name components.
17 Dec 2011, 9:30 pm
buy new cables lol
and Vortex rosewill PSUs are just fine from my experience, I’ve owned quite a few and put alot of them in other builds and none of them have ever died that I know of
17 Dec 2011, 10:21 pm
thats a fine psu but price seems high get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020&cm_sp=Cat_Power_Supplies-_-Spotlight-_-17-139-020 i bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182173 for $29 it was a nice psu for the price if you get a DOA.
