Toshiba has made SSD Hard Drives practical. They are soon to release their new line of SSD’s. The star of the line is their 512gb drive.
There are 4 models they are releasing. All of them have a 240mps read speed and 200mbs write speed. The storage capacity’s of the drives are:
512gb (2.5in)
256gb (2.5 or 1.8in)
128gb (2.5 or 1.8in)
64gb (2.5 or 1.8in)
Each of them feature AES data encryption.
This is a major breakthrough in capacity. Which makes SSD’s now practical to consumers other than Maxishine. To this day, the largest SSD released was by Samsung and had a capacity of only 256gb. Toshiba is predicting that 10% of computer users will be using SSD’s by 2010, and 25% by 2012.
I think that in another 6-12 months another large model will be released, hopfully with 1tb.
For now, I’ll stick with my Seagate Barracuda 1.5tb Hard Drive.

Well, Logitech has done it agian. They will be showing off their new “G” line of gaming products at CES.
These include the, G19 Gaming Keyboard, G9x Gaming Mouse and the G35 7.1 surround sound gaming headset.
The software that comes with the G35 will have voice changing modes that include, cyborg, giant, mutant, space squirrel, troll and alien.
The G19 keyboard looks like it has 2-3 differnt LED backlighting colors that you can change through software or on the fly, and it comes complete with a color LED display.
The G9x mouse looks the same but boasts a 5000DPI engine. This puts it close to the top as far as DPI is concerned.

If you haven’t heard of GPU-Z think of CPU-Z, but for your graphics card. If you haven’t heard of CPU-Z go kill yourself!
Well, that was a bit dramatic. These programs give you information about your GPU and CPU.
The latest version of GP”U-Z is updated to work with all the new features of the latest Forceware and Catylist drivers.
Here is the changelog from their page:
- Fixed crash on systems without NVAPI (Win 2K, old NV drivers)
- Optimized RV770 BIOS reading code for speed (faster application startup)
- Improved voltage reading code for recent ATI cards
- Added support for fan speed monitoring on ForceWare 180.xx and up
- Added voltage monitoring for NVIDIA (GT200)
- Changed reading method for RV770 sensors, fixes race conditions with other software and on-board fan control
- NVIDIA 9800 GTX+ listed as 55nm now
- Added support for Intel Q43/Q45
- Added support for NVIDIA Quadro FX 4700 X2, GTX 295, GTX 285

Samsung wants to wow people at CES this year, and intends to do such by proving just how ridiculously thin they can make their products. They intend to demonstrate a TV that is less than 7mm in thickness. The incredibly thin display relies on an LED backlight, as opposed to a fluorescent bulb that most LCD screens use today. Obvious power benefits aside, an LED backlight does make the extreme thinness possible, and this will be the thinnest TV demoed so far, beating an 8mm device manufactured by Philips.
Though CES hasn’t officially started yet, many companies are already announcing which products they intend to demo. Samsung will be demonstrating this unit at a press conference on Wednesday and then again at CES proper come Thursday. A TV can only get so thin before you ask yourself what the point is, but clearly this technology has vast application. Netbook vendors, for instance, are constantly battling to see who can produce the thinnest unit of all, and the display is a substantial portion of that.

21DD23 was nice enough to post some pics of the new XFX Radeon based cards in the forum. They are so pretty that they belong on the main page. Here they are:

Again, thanks to 21DD23 for posting this in the forum.

This has to be one of the best Twitter hacks yet. Fox had just posted a very serious (dire even) post on Twitter about making lettuce wraps. “Breaking: Bill O Riley is Gay” was the next post.
It appears that Fox is locked out of their account now as the hackers have changed the password. I am sure that Twitter will return the account to Fox after all those dudes in business suits freak out, flail around, and frantically call Twitter.
I really want to make sure you get this mental picture in your head: It’s just a normal day at Fox. The fat business types are preparing their coordinated propaganda (I hate all news, not just Fox) and suddenly a Twitter post goes out reading, “”Breaking: Bill O Riley is Gay”!!!
Everyone freaks out at first, there is yelling, there is gnashing of teeth, there is flailing… They frantically try to erase the post, then they realize it: They are locked out of their account… That’s freaking classic.
Brittney Spears account has also been hacked. This could get good. Who is next.

VR Zone has “seen some papers,” whatever that means. And they have posted an article stating that Nvidia plans to transition all of their graphics cards over to 40nm by the third quarter of 2009.
The first will be the powerful GT212, and we will also see the GT300, GT214, GT216, GT218 and iGT209.
These are all code names at this point and little is known. The GT300 is rumored to support DirectX 11 and I will be surprised if the others do not.
40nm is going to mean faster, cooler, and smaller GPU’s. I am guessing that we will see some powerful cards with single slot cooling units as well.
Nvidia also plans to release a line of CPU’s using the 40nm fabrication process. Implications are dire (always wanted to say that, even if it was inapropriate).
I am sure ATI and even Intel will have answers. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Police in Great Britain might be allowed to “hack” into British citizens computers without a warrant. There has been a major outbreak in citizens speaking against this, saying their privacy has been violated (Of course!).
It is the way they are doing this that is very strange to me, the alternative they said is keyloggers. Instead, they are sending emails containing malware. With the malware, the monitoring stations will be able to access hard drive contents, view emails, and view browsing history. They will also be able to download files from suspected PC’s.
The police claim that this is necessary, if this goes into effect, they claim that they can easily track online predators, and criminals.
This is what they are calling a “Big Brother Program”, which they are saying will monitor phone calls, addresses, email, and browsing history.
I am unsure on the current status of the bill, but I really dont belive that this will happen because of the British citizens outrage.

If you are new to Foobar let me sum it up for you. Foobar is the best sounding audio player on the planet. It can handle just about any file (perhaps with a plugin), it is extremely customizable, and it barely uses any system resources. It is the antithesis of iTunes.
The differences between Foobar2000 0.9.6.1 and 0.9.6 are minimal. Here are the four changes:
-
Autocompletion of values in the Properties dialog.
-
Support for chapters in Musepack SV8 files.
-
New “Split values” command in the Properties dialog.
-
Simple search queries: any latin characters are now matched regardless of their accents.
The last one makes me really freaking happy. I have tons of songs from European black metal bands that have accents. They were, before, impossible to search for. Now, when I type, “mork” I find “Mörker” among others.
The best gets a little better again. Download it here:
